MARIE BIRCH’S CAPTAIN BUTLER WEBSITE
Hello, my name is Marie Birch, and I have created,
an Unofficial Captain Butler Website, for all of the lucky people out there,
who had liked, the series, at the time! ... Test No 5
Craig Charles, had
appeared, as the main character: Captain Butler! And, Craig Charles,
is well-known, around the World, for appearing, in Red Dwarf, as the Last
Human: Dave Lister, and for being, the former Presenter of the Robot Wars
series.
But that said, however, the important thing
is, there is an Unofficial Captain Butler Website, available, out there, on the
Internet! And, at the end of the day, that is all, that really counts, isn't
it?! So, without any further ado, this is what will happen:

would have fully recommended, Craig's former: Official Craig Charles Fan Club,
to any of his fans, which had run, from December 1996, until about, April
1998?, especially as his former: Official Craig Charles Fan Club Team, had been
so kind to publish a letter, that I had sent in, to them, at the time, which
had been, full of praise, about Captain Butler!
I intend to transcribe all the scripts, from
the series. I can only transcribe, so much, at a time, because I have got other
projects, I am working on, and it isn’t, a five minute job, to set up, all of
the Web links, which is a well-known fact, if you are familiar, where working
with HTML: Word Processors’, are concerned! But for
anybody, who comes across, my Unofficial Captain Butler Website, I will
definitely, keep you posted, when the scripts, for Captain Butler, will be
available, for viewing and downloading! And, I have got plans, for all of my
other projects, on my Unofficial Captain Butler Website, in the near future!

Unfortunately however, due to low viewing
figures, it was more or less confirmed, during 1998, that there, was not going,
to be another series of Captain Butler, which was a terrible shame, really, especially
as I really did feel, that Captain Butler, had got a future, which was a really
great loss, in my general opinion! It just needed a little bit of time to grow,
that was all! But as stated above: my Unofficial Captain Butler Website, is
here forever, and I promise, that I will not, desert all the viewers, it
attracted, during it's run,
during January 1997! Especially as it did attract, a sort of a Cult following,
because I have since discovered, that some of the episodes, of the Captain
Butler, were aired, at a Red Dwarf Convention, in Australia, during their
(Southern Hemisphere) Summer of 1996. And from what, I
have gathered, the Australian fans of Red Dwarf, really loved, Captain Butler!
I have since discovered, that Captain Butler, did receive, between two to three million viewers,
at the time, though, which was very good, for Channel 4, at the time, anyhow!
I understand, that Captain Butler,
had been repeated, on Channel 4, during 1998. At Five ‘0’ Clock, in the
morning! Who in their right mind, was going to watch, Captain Butler, at that
time, in the morning?! I ask you! I admit, that I recorded the very first
episode, of the repeated series, of Captain Butler, during 1998, due to my
thinking, that there might be, a very remote hope,
that it was a brand new series! But I was soon proved, very wrong, where that
was concerned!

But that said, however, I have recently
discovered, that when, Craig Charles, had been, promoting: Red Dwarf: The
Sketchbook Series, which has since been, re-titled, as: Red Dwarf: Back To
Earth, during January 2009, via his Funk and Soul Show, on BBC 6 Music, Craig
had joked: “They might bring back: Captain Butler, one day!”,
at the time. Well, I will certainly, live in hope, where bringing, Captain
Butler, back, to Channel 4, is concerned, anyhow!

Sunday the 31st of July 2011, up until, Saturday the 2nd of November 2019.
And, I will be,
sorting out, things, on Facebook, where that, is

HAVE RECEIVED, OFF THE FANS, OVER THE PAST ELEVEN YEARS!
I would like to express, all of my thanks,
via my sack of email correspondence, that I have
received, off everybody, who has praised my Unofficial Captain Butler Website,
over the years! Your views, are always welcome! And,
it is definitely my intention, to get back to everybody, who has sent me, all
of their email correspondence, over the years, where that is concerned, one
way, or another, if that, is at all possible, for me, to do so, that is!
But failing that, I have got, every intention
of sorting out, a circular newsgroup posting, which will definitely express,
all of my thanks, with regard to that, for the alt.tv.red-dwarf
and the alt.comedy.british newsgroups, at a much
later date!
And, I will also sort out, a circular email,
to everybody, who has praised me, where my Unofficial Captain Butler Website,
is concerned, as soon, as it is possible, for me to do so, that is!
Unfortunately however, I have recently discovered, that I will have to locate,
all of my Captain Butler email correspondence, to do that, and that, could take
me, years! And, at this point, in time, it would probably not be, feasible, for
me, to locate, all of my Captain Butler email correspondence, off everybody,
concerned, while I am presently, updating my Unofficial Captain Butler Website,
at this point, in time, anyhow! But that said, however, I promise, that I will definitely, make an effort, where that is concerned, when I
can get around to it, that is! And, I am warning you all, it could take me
years, as I have got, such a lot to catch up with, where working on, all of my
Websites, are concerned!
And, I promise, that I have got, every intention of publishing, all of the best emails,
that I have received, off everybody, where praising, my Unofficial Captain
Butler Website, is concerned, at a later date! And I have also got, every
intention of wading through, all of your email correspondence, whenever it is
convenient, for me, to do so, with regard, to all of the praise,
that I have received, via my Unofficial Captain Butler Website, over the
years, anyhow! I sincerely apologise for any delays, where that is concerned,
but I have been suffering from chronic skin inflammation, since August 2003,
via an extremely bad fall, that I had the misfortune, to encounter, at a
Castle, in Wales, England, Great Britain, United Kingdom! And I have not been
right, ever since, that happened! And, I have had a lot of other problems, that I really do not want, to go into, at the
moment! And once again, I sincerely apologise, for any inconvenience, caused,
where that is concerned, anyhow! But once again, I cannot stress, how grateful,
I am, with regard, to all of your emails of praise, where my Unoffiicial Captain Butler Website, is concerned! I do not
know, what I would have done, without your very much needed, support!

CAPTAIN BUTLER FAN FICTION
To start the ball rolling, I have started a
Captain Butler story of my very own! I don't know how long it will be, it may
be a one off, or it may be a continual story, but if you are interested, then

As I have discovered, via my former: Web
Counter Entry List (which is not available via our new Internet Service
Provider, unfortunately!), that there have been, one or two Americans, who have
been, on my Unofficial Captain Butler Website! Which has come as quite a
surprise, especially, as Captain Butler, hasn't been broadcast in the United
States of America, just yet! But for the benefit of the American subscribers,
who have visited this Website, or are going to visit this page, I will fill you
in very briefly.
Captain Butler, is
an independent comedy series, which Red Dwarf actor, Craig Charles appeared in,
during January 1997. It wasn't as successful, as Red Dwarf, but it did attract
a cult following, and even though, I have been told by the man himself, at Red
Dwarf’s annual convention, which was held in October, that there isn't going to
be another series, I have decided to carry on with my Unofficial Captain Butler
Website, for the benefit of those, who liked Captain Butler, at the time
(including myself!) And there is always the possibility, that it may be more
successful abroad, than in the United Kingdom! And believe you me, the
Australian Red Dwarf Fans, really did love viewing, all six episodes of Captain
Butler, at a General Science Fiction Convention (where there were no celebrity
guests, whatsoever)! So, there you have it!

CAPTAIN PUGWASH
Here are one or two facts, that you may be
interested to know, about Captain Pugwash, the
Children’s animated comedy series, which was originally made, in the 1950’s,
which I was lucky enough, to see, more or less of the back end of Captain Pugwash, aired, during 1975, when it came to an end!
And Captain Pugwash,
has unofficially, been declared as a forerunner of Captain Butler! Captain
Butler was definitely more of an adult version of Captain Pugwash,
from the very sexy way, that Craig Charles portrayed Captain Butler, especially
where the quite blatant nudity, was concerned! They are:
Captain Horatio Pugwash, originally made his
debut, in a comic-strip format, in the very first issue of The Eagle, in 1950, then he appeared, regularly as a
comic-strip format, in The Radio Times.
The Ship’s name was The Black Pig - As far as
I know, Captain Butler’s ship, did not have a name. But perhaps they may have
worked something out, for that, if the cast and crew, had gone ahead, with a
second series of Captain Butler!
Their enemies were - The Flying Dustman and
Cut Throat Jake! So far, Captain Butler and his Crew, had not, made any
enemies, apart from the erstwhile Mr (Marbles) Perkiss
(Peter Waddington, and he played The Food Inspector, in the Maid Marian and Her
Merry Men episode: Raining Forks, and he was also the Pathologist, in the
Inspector Morse episode: Second Time Around), in the final episode of the
series: Jailhouse Crock! But that said, they may have just been biding their
time, me hearties, if a second series, of Captain Butler, had gone ahead, that
is!
Two popular misconceptions about it were:
There was never a character called Seaman Stains in Captain Pugwash!
Humorous, though it may have been, if there had ever been, a character, going
by that name, in question, that is!
There was also never a character, called
Roger The Cabin Boy, in Captain Pugwash.
The Cabin Boy, in Captain Pugwash, was called Tom.
Roger would have suited him better, though, me thinks!
And I really do feel, that Roger The Cabin Boy,
definitely worked, on Captain Butler, anyhow!
The one episode of Captain Pugwash, which really sticks in my mind, is the one, where
he decided to do a bit of DIY, on the ship, and Captain Pugwash
thought, that chopping down, the white and purple pillar down, situated in his
Cabin quarters, would have been a very good idea! That was not to be, unfortunately,
because after Pugwash had insisted on chopping it
down, it caused the main mast to snap, because that pretty white and purple pillar, was part of the main mast! That episode, quite
coincidentally, was available on video, a couple of years back, but I haven't
seen it since, and I sincerely regret, not buying the video of Captain Pugwash, anyhow!
Captain Pugwash, was forty eight years old, during 2005!
And I daresay, that
all of the Captain Pugwash fans, definitely, enjoyed the
Fiftieth Anniversary celebrations, for Captain Pugwash,
during 2007, when the time eventually came around, that is! There will be more
details on that, when I get around, to accessing the Internet, for more
information, with regard, to the Fiftieth Anniversary celebrations, for Captain
Pugwash, during 2007, as soon, as it is possible, for
me to do so!
With regard, to the updated version of
Captain Pugwash: The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, I saw one episode, of The Adventures of Captain Pugwash, during the Autumn of
1998! And I had to admit, that I was quite impressed with it, and I was amazed
at the similarities between it, and Captain Butler! Unfortunately however,
Craig Charles did not get the opportunity to narrate: The Adventures of Captain
Pugwash, which was a good opportunity, lost in my
general opinion, and I will stress, that they were definitely, missing out,
where Craig's acting, is concerned! But I still managed to enjoy Captain Pugwash, nevertheless, and it just goes to prove, that
there is still a Children’s audience for it, when it actually comes down to it!
And as we have long since gone into the
Millennium, it looks as if Captain Pugwash will
definitely go beyond it! And my general intention, is to devote a review, of
the episode, I saw of Captain Pugwash, during 1998,
some time, in the future! And I do not know, when that will be, as I really am,
VERY behind, with regard, to catching up, where the rest of my Websites, are
concerned, what with one thing and another! But I definitely intend, to review,
the episode, I saw of Captain Pugwash, during 1998,
one day! And for the time being, I have left a blank space, on my Unofficial
Captain Butler Website, which will eventually, contain the Web link, for the
review of the episode, I saw of Captain Pugwash,
