So, without, any further ado, here are, the Lyrics, for:
(Spoken) Hasta es xavienda de Xanadu.
You'll hear my voice on the wind, cross the sand If you should return to that black, barren land That bears the name of Xanadu. Cursed, without hope, was the love that I sought. Lost from the start was the duel that was fought To win a heart in Xanadu. Now no footprints leave no traces Only shadows move in places Where we used to go. And the buildings open to the sky All echo with the vultures cry. As if to show our love was for a day And doomed to pass away. In Xanadu, in Xanadu, in Xanadu! In Xanadu, in Xanadu, in Xanadu!
(Spoken) What was it to you that a man laid down his life for your love? Were those clear eyes of yours ever filled with the pain of tears and grief? Did you ever give yourself to any one man in this world wide. Or did you love me and will you find your way back one day to Xanadu?
You'll hear my voice on the wind, cross the sand If you should return to that black, barren land That bears the name of Xanadu. In Xanadu, in Xanadu, in Xanadu!
A REVIEW
OF XANADU THE MOVIE
I have got, one more connection with regard to Xanadu, and that is the lyrics to Xanadu sung by Olivia Newton-John accompanied via The Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O). Now all of you fans of Red Dwarf out there, all know how much Holly loves Olivia Newton-John! But seriously though, I have seen the film Xanadu, and I quite liked it, and it was just before it was officially released on video. Because my parents neighbour Michael owned Ruby Red Records in Wolverhampton, and he also had connections with the record industry. Actually Mick has met Kate Bush on several occasions, and he said that she seemed nice, but as my parents acquired one of the very first video recorders during 1981, Michael and Chris his ex-wife, were a great help to us, where borrowing pre-recorded videos were concerned, because there was very few video shops about at the time, and the hire of the videos was ten pounds a time. A year later, the hire of the videos came down to five pounds, and six months after that, they dropped down to the £2.50 hire fee, and as watching videos pioneered, as we all know, the hire fee of videos, came down to a pound! But if you were inexperienced, where watching videos were concerned, eighteen years ago, and you didn't know the right people, it was a very costly business indeed, and my family were grateful where Mick's help and advice, was concerned. My parents even saw The Deer Hunter just before it was officially released on video. I wasn't allowed to watch it, because the language was terrible. I was only fourteen at the time. I did see it two years later, when it was released on television, but that was the edited version. I would have liked to have seen the unedited version of The Deer Hunter, and although I do laugh now, when I think back to when my parents sent me out of the lounge, eighteen years ago, I do feel that I missed out on seeing The Deer Hunter in it's unedited format! However, I was allowed to see Xanadu of course, and I was quite surprised to hear that it had been criticised, when it was on at the cinema, two years before, especially where the support of the late Gene Kelly, was concerned! And I had really loved seeing Olivia Newton-John as Kira the muse on her roller skates, which I had seen, via the previews of Xanadu the movie, on television during 1980. Admittedly, the film could not compete with Grease, but it did have it's moments, nevertheless! And I did think, that the acting content of the film was very weak, but that was mainly, because there was too music content, than there was acting content, and I really loved the romantic concept of the Greek muses from that ancient legend coming to life, via an advertisement of beautiful women altogether, and The Electric Light Orchestra's (ELO) more well-known hit: I'm Alive, when they changed from cardboard cutouts to modern day celluloid California cut outs, which were alive, and the advertisement poster was designed by this young man, who when he designed the poster, his artists materials all seemed to have a life of their own, and the appearance of the women that he had originally designed of the women changed completely, and Olivia Newton-John's face was one of them. So, once the muses came to life, they were told that they all had a limited time in modern day California. Kira played by Olivia Newton-John, seemed to have a different personality to the other muses, who seemed rather self-centred, and they only went to places, where they could show off, but Kira seemed to like nothing more, than being in the fresh air, in a beautiful white dress, but she didn't walk. She roller skated! And the young artist who had created the poster, with the four Americanized muses, made her acquaintance that way. For Kira and the young artist, it was love at first sight, but he had no inkling that she was a muse, but she seemed to him to come from another time. And at times she sometimes appeared very distant, when he told her about his life in modern day California, which she knew very little of, been a Greek muse, of course. She also has a tendency of disappearing into thin air, because she was frightened of her superior muses. And in despair, the young artist turned to his friend an older man, who was an artistic musician friend of his, played by Gene Kelly, who sympathised with his friend about this this strange young girl and he also informed him, that when he had started out as a musician, during the war, he had also fallen in love with a beautiful young girl, and quite coincidentally, she had walked into his life and just walked out of his life, just like that, but she had genuinely cared about him, but he had also felt that she was very distant from him, just like the girl, his friend had just met, and not only that, she seemed very frightened, if she didn't make her departure from him, at a certain time. And as his artist friend left the theatre, the musicians friends thoughts went back to the time, when he met the young girl who had captured his heart all those years ago. The scene where he had last made her acquaintance was in an empty ballroom, and the beautiful girl who was dressed in the forties uniform of an American GI, danced with the musician friend, and they also sang a beautiful forties song, which again, must be credited to the skills of The Electric Light Orchestra. It is obvious to one and all, that the young GI is Kira, and it seems that she does not age, but obviously the musician friend does age, and you discover later on in the film, that he never married, because Kira had captured his heart, for the brief time that he knew her, and because of this, it broke his heart. It seems that the muses are there to taunt the men that they come across, and because their power over mankind is so strong, any man who meets one of the muses is captured by her charm and beauty forever, and in a sense he is enslaved to her, for the rest of his life. The muses with the exception of Kira, do not realise what they are doing is wrong, and they tend to be brainwashed by their superiors, who keep on claiming, that you cannot do anything about destiny, but Kira has somehow seen through them over the years, and apparently she has done her best to avoid getting involved in a relationship, but no matter how she tries, she just cannot do anything to stop men from falling for her charms. She is a muse, no matter how hard she tries to deny it, and she obviously has no memory of the men who fall for her charms over the years, including the musician friend, and even when she can recall any of her relationships, it seems like a distant dream. That particular song that Olivia Newton-John performed with Gene Kelly is sometimes played on BBC Radio Two, and even though it wasn't my sort of thing at the time, I do think that particular sequence with Gene Kelly is what supports the film, and the contrast between the 1940's Kira and the 1980's Kira, is a very good contrast indeed. And yes, I have seen Singing In The Rain! Don't knock it you Dwarfer's, Debbie Reynolds is Carrie Fisher's Mother after all! And I think that Singing In The Rain, is one of those musicals, that has really stood the the test of time, very well indeed! I really love Good Morning, and not only that, with regard to the acting content of the film, I really enjoyed discovering more about the history of sound in the film industry. And what a mess it all was! But it looks like the young artist is going to be another victim of her charms, because before long, Kira realises that her time on earth is lumbered. So, she decides to tell the young man the truth, because by that time, he has fallen deeply in love with her, and on a rain soaked street, Kira tells the young man that she is a muse. He is completely taken aback, and he is so taken aback, that he even laughs at her, and he makes fun of her, and that he never wants to see her again, if she doesn't tell him the truth about herself. But Kira insists that she is telling him the truth, but he just doesn't want to hear anymore, and he leaves a very saddened Kira on the rain soaked street. But Kira is vastly relieved that she has told the young man the truth, before it is far too late. And her time on Earth is nearly up, because she goes back to the theatre, and her senior muses are very angry with her, indeed! And they are absolutely determined, that Kira will never ever be free of their hold over her, for the rest of eternity! And what is more, they turn the other muses against her, because they kindly inform them, that she is not truly one of them, anymore! But even so, they are not prepared to let her go, and she will be denied her freedom for the rest of eternity! Heavily defeated, the young man decides to go and visit his friend, and he informs him what Kira has told him about her being a muse, but to his surprise, his friend tells him that he doesn't think that Kira has been leading him on, and he also tells him about the female GI, who bore a striking resemblance to the Kira, that his young friend had fallen in love with, and he insists that she must have been the woman he fell in love with during the war, and that she has got to be the same woman! His friend insists that he must believe that Kira was telling him the truth once and for all, because he knows that his life will never be the same again. The young man cannot deny it. Since breaking up with Kira, he has been desparately unhappy, and something inside him, desparately wants to believe her story, but without any further ado, they set out a plan to rescue Kira from her chief muses hold on her. How they do that, is something, that I have forgotten, but somehow they rescue her from the strong lightning that is somehow, enveloping the theatre. Once Kira is free from the muses hold from her, she becomes a mortal, and she will age naturally, just like any other human being, and with that, Kira and the young man, are destined to live, happily ever after. But here are the lyrics for the theme music to the film Xanadu, which is called Xanadu, which was performed by Olivia Newton-John accompanied by The Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O), written by Jeff Lynne. The lyrics in brackets are sung by The Electric Light Orcestra (E.L.O). But the words fade out, which are in different style brackets, means that the song is fading out.
XANADU THE MOVIE LYRICS
A place where nobody dared to go, the love that we came to know They call it Xanadu (the tears that fly, that dignify). And now, open your eyes and see, what we have made is real We are in Xanadu. (The Dreams that we offer you) A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star. An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally. Chorus: Xanadu, Xanadu, (now we are here) in Xanadu. Xanadu, Xanadu (now we are here) in Xanadu. Xanadu, your neon lights will shine for you, Xanadu. The love, the echoes of long ago, you needed the world to know They are in Xanadu. (the tears that fly, that dignify) The dream that came through a million years. That lived on through all the tears, it came to Xanadu (The Dreams that we offer to you). A million lights are dancing and there you are, a shooting star. An everlasting world and you're here with me, eternally. Chorus: Xanadu, Xanadu (now we are here) in Xanadu. Xanadu, Xanadu (now we are here) Now that I'm here, now that you're near in Xanadu.
