Claus Stauffenberg (also known as Count Schenk of Graf) was born, on the 15th November 1907, in Jettingen, Germany and he died, on the 20th of July 1944, in Berlin. He was a German Army Officer, who carried out, an unsuccessful attempt, to assassinate: Adolf Hitler.

An army colonel and chief of a panzer division in the North African campaign. Stauffenberg was severely wounded (losing his left eye, right hand, and two fingers, of his left hand) in April 1943, and subsequently resigned to the Berlin reserve army staff. In the ever-widening conspiracy of army officers against Hitler, he assumed a leading role, and reserved for himself the central task of carrying out the proposed assassination. After two preliminary attempts, he had succeeded, in placing, a bomb, at Hitler's Headquarters at Rastenburg (July 20th 1944), which however failed to kill the Dictator. A planned simultaneous coup in Berlin, likewise miscarried; Stauffenberg and a few of his co-conspirators were summarily executed the night of July 20th in Berlin - the first of several thousands who ultimately died in the bloody aftermath of the affair.
